Brooklyn, NY pair arrested for placing illegal gambling machines across New Jersey including in Lakewood, NJ

A duo from Brooklyn, New York has been arrested by New Jersey State Police for allegedly setting up illegal gambling machines across the state including in Lakewood.

New Jersey State Police estimate that Daniel Kahn, 31, and Yuriy Yakubov, 34, brought in more than $10,000 a month with their scheme.

The investigation began in October of last year when the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs and New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement contacted the New Jersey State Police Financial Crimes North Unit about illegal "coin pusher" gambling devices that were at several convenient stores in Lakewood -- and are devices that are only approved to be on boardwalks and in arcades.

As the investigation continued, New Jersey State Police Detectives were able to identify Kohan and Yakubov as the suspects who put these machines at stores in Lakewood and elsewhere across the state, with Kohan bringing in the profits.

The NJSP Financial Crimes North Unit learned that Yakubov was in Bergen County on February 1 and arrested him as he was servicing a gambling device at a store in Wallington, New Jersey.

NJSP said that Kohan turned himself in to troopers at the New Jersey State Police Meadowlands Station not long after that and he was arrested.

Kohan and Yakubov were both charged with possession of a gambling device with Kohan being additionally charged with money laundering and promoting gambling.

Both of the men were then released pending a future court date.

New Jersey State Police said that this case is being prosecuted by the New Jersey Division of Criminal Justice.
