Breaded chicken tenders distributed in NJ recalled
Check the chicken tenders in the fridge. If they're labeled Meal Mart and you bought them within the past month, they might contain plastic and, if so, they're under recall.
Long Island-based Schreiber Processing Coroporation issued the Class 1 recall for 2,330 pounds of Meal Mart Battered & Breaded Chicken Breast Tenders, produced December 8, 2016, packaged the next day and shipped in 10-pound boxes to stores and restaurants in New Jersey, New York and Washington.
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), a consumer complaint spurred the recall. Under USDA guidelines, a Class 1 recall represents "a health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause, serious, adverse health consequences or death."
The boxes bear item code 03-CTB and production code 0246. The USDA inspection mark bears the establishment number P-787.
USDA issued no details regarding the plastic's composition, color, or point of origin, but says that there have been no confirmed reports of associated injuries or illnesses.
The agency recommends either throwing the items in the trash, or returning them to the place of purchase.
