The state's NJ STARS and NJ STARS II program could be preserved under a bill recently passed by the full Assembly. A bill (A-1176/S-874), sponsored by Assemblyman Dave Wolfe, makes a number of revisions to the original NJ STARS program aimed easing the financial burden on the state and institutions that financed it. The bill limits the costs covered by the scholarship to just tuition, it eliminates a provision that based the amount of the scholarship on a student's GPA and limits all NJSTARS II Schoolarships to $1,250 per semester. The bill also calls for the entire scholarship be paid for by the state.
