As we move around the Beachwood, Bayville, and Berkeley areas today, a literal haze hangs over Ocean County.

The air has a slight hint of campfire smell to it, and people who are nearest to yesterday's blaze are brushing ash off of their homes and cars.

There is also a palpable sense of tension as the fire danger remains high. In fact, new fires have broken out today in other areas of the state.

While fire fighters and emergency personnel work around the clock to quash any new flare ups, there are a few things that we can all do to help avoid situations happening like this again. The first of which is all too simple -

Don't throw cigarettes out of your car window! Yes, they are litter, and in conditions like we have now, they could lead to literal disaster.
