May is here, and that means that beach season is very quickly approaching for Ocean County.

Many of our beaches will be manned by hardworking lifeguards when Memorial Day Weekend rolls around, with one LBI beach announcing that they'll be giving swimmers an extra hour this summer.

According to The SandPaper, Ship Bottom will have lifeguards on duty this summer until 6 p.m. instead of the usual 5 p.m.

The article says that both ocean and bay beaches in Ship Bottom will be manned by lifeguards from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. on the weekends starting with Memorial Day Weekend, and daily starting on June 15th.

According to Ship Bottom Beach Patrol Chief Keith Stokes:

“Public safety is the number one concern. . .We see a lot of visitors – locals, too – after 5 p.m.”
