Barnegat residents may soon have a new grocery option to add to their shopping routine. For a town that currently has only one supermarket, the prospect of a new store brings excitement, and questions, about how it could change local shopping.

A proposal has been submitted for an Aldi Food Market to open on Barnegat Boulevard, according to patch.com, potentially giving locals an alternative to the only supermarket currently in town, Acme.

Why Barnegat Residents Are Excited

The closest Aldi is currently in Manahawkin, which means a trip to the store requires some travel for Barnegat shoppers. If approved, the new location would offer convenience, competitive prices, and the popular selection Aldi is known for nationwide.

The Proposed Location and Size

The proposed site sits on a vacant lot behind Walgreens at 10 Barnegat Boulevard. Plans call for a 21,495-square-foot facility, including two areas set aside for possible future expansion, according to patch.com.

Residents will have the chance to voice their opinions and learn more about the project at the township planning board meeting on September 30 at 6:30 p.m. at 900 West Bay Avenue, thanks to the patch.
