The man who allegedly robbed the M&T bank in Barnegat last month has been arrested in New Hyde Park, Long Island, New York.

Kim Quoc Nguyen, 39, from Newtown Square, Pennsylvania is charged with robbery, terroristic threats and theft in connection to the March 29 robbery where he handed the teller a note and then took off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

He was found on April 14 around 3:00 pm when members of the Barnegat Police Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) along with members of the Nassau County Police Department Bureau of Special Operations and Nassau County Robbery Squad worked together to find Nguyen and arrest him following a short foot pursuit.

Nguyen was identified as the suspect on April 2 after an investigation by Barnegat Police Detective James Purcell, Detective William Hetrick and the Barnegat Police CRU.

At that time, an extradition warrant was issued, but Nguyen's location was not known.

The search for Nguyen and continuing investigation over the next two weeks took Barnegat officers to several different areas including south Jersey, Philadelphia and New York City.

Further investigation by Barnegat officers resulted in a vehicle connected to Nguyen being located in Queens, NY.

The subsequent investigation and surveillance led to Nguyen’s discovery and arrest.

Nguyen is currently being held in the Nassau County Correctional Center pending extradition.

Barnegat Police Chief Keith Germain lauded the outstanding police work and cooperation that led to Nguyen’s arrest.

“This is precisely the kind of collaboration and teamwork we strive for in law enforcement. Over a dozen federal, state, county, and local agencies from three states worked together and leveraged their individual knowledge and expertise to safely bring this subject into custody,” Germain said.
