As some of you might know yesterday was my 40th anniversary at WOBM and I’m mentioning this not because of the personal significance of the date but what my family and co-workers did to mark the occasion.

Of course if you were listening to this segment at 8:20 a.m. on 92.7 WOBM FM you know it was hijacked by my children who not only recorded a tribute to me but showed up in our studio.  That was a surprise for sure and I thought the end as they told me they were driving back to Hoboken where they both live and then to work in New York City.

An hour or so later our Market Manager and my boss Dennis Lamme used false pretenses to get me to walk into our conference room where I was stunned to see not only those I work with but my entire family from my 91-year old mother to my six-week old grandson who was wearing a custom WOBM onesie.

To say I was blown away would be an understatement and yes I was at a loss for words but did the best I could to express my thanks fighting off tears the entire time.

A tremendous breakfast had been arranged, complete with champagne and Ob-Co Donuts and as part of it all there was 10-minute video of congratulatory and sometimes sarcastic messages from my Townsquare family who I share our office in Toms River with.  I sure wish my father and Bob Levy could have been there.

I would learn that all of this was the brainchild of my children, Alex and Brandon and the process started back in May.  Alex, who professionally helps plan events, did this one gratis although it will likely cost me at some point (LOL).

The two of them worked with Dennis along with Nancy Penn and Brad Burascano on the surprise which included a 16-page tribute booklet (thank you Steve Meyer) from family, friends as well as current and former co-workers.  It’s something I will treasure for the rest of my life.

There is one person I have not mentioned because you always save the best for last.  My wife Jane was not only part of this but planned a lunch get together at our house with all my family members which simply was the culmination of a truly amazing day and one I will not forget.

And while my 40th anniversary here is special, it’s second to our 38th wedding anniversary which ironically is tomorrow.

The day was a wonderful reminder of this quote, “In the end it’s not going to matter how many breaths you took, but how many moments took your breath away.” Yesterday was certainly one of them.
