A Special Golf Outing To Benefit Students and the Legacy of a Brick Educator
The Handchen Family is synonymous with Brick Township, especially when it comes to athletics. Harold “Hank” Handchen was the longtime Green Dragons athletic director and his sons Hank & Rick both worked in the school district with Rick assuming his father’s old title before retiring in 2017, five years after Hank retired.
Rick and his wife Crystal relocated to Pinehurst, North Carolina along with their daughter Ashleigh who was a track athlete at UNC Charlotte. Everything was in place with Rick playing lots of golf and coaching at a local high school while Crystal continued with her passion of coaching cheerleading, something she had done throughout her teaching career in Brick.
In April of 2021 Crystal died suddenly which was a devastating loss to her family, friends, students and others who knew her. In honor of her memory and in an effort to maintain her legacy the Crystal Marousis Handchen Walk With Me Foundation has been established and on Thursday, August 4 the non-profit organization will hold a golf tournament and gift auction at Harbor Pines Golf Club.
All proceeds will go to the foundation which last spring gave $1000 scholarships to students at Brick Memorial and Pinecrest High School. Their primary focus is the two high schools in Brick and the one in North Carolina.
The organization is seeking golfers, sponsors and donations to their gift auction. For information you can visit their website at https://cmhwalkwithme.org or contact Maria at 908-783-5802. If you have any connection to Brick, the Handchen family or just want to help kids and enjoy a day on the golf course then call to reserve your spot today!
