This past weekend, Saturday started out rainy and chilly, but once we got into the afternoon, it turned into a fantastic early fall weekend. A perfect weekend to do a favorite New Jersey family activity - apple picking.

So I headed out with a friend to mosey through the local orchards to pick the perfect fruit.

We clearly weren't the only ones with the same idea, the place was packed, but there was still plenty of room for everyone and plenty of big, shiny apples to pick from.

There's nothing quite like walking around for a little while and spotting the perfect piece of fruit - big, round, and unblemished. Sometimes you have to work a  little to get to it, but the payoff it always better than just grabbing mass produced produce from the grocery store.

I came home with about 5 pounds worth of apples. It was totally worth it.

So what are your favorite places to go apple picking nearby? Tell us in the comments!
