By order of Governor Christie, flags on New Jersey state buildings will be raised to half-staff Tuesday, July 25, in memory of Marine Corporal Daniel Baldassare of Colts Neck. The 2015 Colts Neck High School graduate was one of 16 victims in the July 10 crash of a KC-10 in Mississippi. Baldassare was a recipient of the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the National Service Defense Medal.

A Belmar day camp, running without state health certifications and with fire code violations, is ordered shut by Monmouth County Superior Court officials. Camp Emzee operators have an August 29 court date to answer allegations filed by the county Health Department. About 30 children in grades two through seven attend the camp.

New information on the fire that's scorched more than 3,000 acres in a remote section of Wharton State Forest in Burlington County indicates that it's 70 percent contained. It's been burning since Thursday. A New Jersey environmental official says that dead underbrush is largely fueling the flames About 50 firefighters are using back fires, bulldozers, attack and water trucks to keep it within lines of containment.

Funeral preparations for a murdered Keansburg 11-year-old are complete, but her father's hope of attending is fading. Kenroy Smith last saw Abbiegail three years ago. He was deported to Jamaica on 2001 on a drug charge. Early this morning, he said, he was told that he "has an immmigration problem" and would be denied a visa. Appeals to immigration officials by another daughter in Washington have been fruitless.
