How can it be?  This is the final weekend of July and if you are keeping track we are only 38 days away from Labor Day.

I admit to being consumed by the speed of summer as my mind will not allow it to slow down.  I’ve talked with a lot of people about this and they all agree with most believing it has to do with the fact that springtime weather has been awful in recent years.

It almost seems like we have three seasons,.summer, fall and winter, because spring feels like it lasts about 2-3 weeks.  At least this weekend looks like a good one for the most part.

A little follow-up to something I said yesterday regarding public school facilities in Ocean County because I received some feedback when I said we are watching some schools literally fall apart.  I have always believed that schools are and should be a source of pride in a community.

When people are looking to find a place to live and raise a family one of the biggest factors is the local school district and while education is the number one priority the physical appearance of buildings and facilities is also something that is considered.

Unfortunately for financial reasons maintenance and improvements have taken a back seat and that trend will likely continue for years to come.

Tomorrow will be a special day in Island Heights as the borough celebrates the 140th anniversary of the incorporation of the Island Heights Association during Founder’s Day.

A parade will step off at 11 a.m. from the Pavilion at Central and River Avenue and will march along the river and circle back around and down Lake Avenue to Memorial Field where an all-day fair runs from noon to 6 p.m. featuring food trucks, vendors, the Hometown Crew from WOBM and plenty of family fun. Sounds like a great day in Island Heights.

A big night for my friend Dennis Lamme Jr. in the TRBA Summer League on Thursday.  He hit 10 three-pointers and scored a career-high 30 points to help the Thunder win their basketball game.  Way to go “Tuffy” and while I couldn’t get you on ESPN I hope you’re okay with a little Hometown View shout-out.
