Sanitation Truck Burns in Toms River

If the midday closure of Parkway Exit 83 in Toms River inconvenienced you, it was much worse on the other side where a garbage truck burst into flames just before noon.

Toms River police said that the driver of the Berkeley Township rig noticed smoke in the cab as he tooled along Lomell Lane arpimd 11: 44 AM. He screeched to a halt and jumped out as flames spread out and engulfed the truck.

Volunteer firefighters from Toms River companies 1, 2 and Pleasant Plains squelched the blaze while the ramp stayed closed for about an hour.

Police said no one was hurt.
