Brick Police believe it may have been a medical episode that led to a single-car accident Friday afternoon on Route 70.

Thomas Plaska, 28, of Jackson was heading west on 70 crossing over the Liberty Bridge coming from Brielle in a tan 2000 Lincoln Town Car around 1:50 pm when police say he began swerving between lanes.

Police say Plaska then struck the retaining wall of the bridge, continued down 70 and later impacted the center median attenuator by the intersection of Herbertsville Road.

Passing drivers saw Plaska sitting in the car unconscious, stopped and called police while trying to help the injured driver.

Emergency crews transported Plaska to Jersey Shore University Medical Center with undisclosed injuries after treating him at the scene.

Traffic around the accident was detoured for about an hour.

The nature of the accident remains under investigation by Brick Police.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who has information pertaining to the crash is asked to contact Patrolman Lampiasi at (732) 262-1141.

Brick Police were assisted at the accident scene by Brick Police’s Emergency Medical Services and MONOC Paramedics.
