Body found in Tent in Lacey

A woman has been found dead in a tent in a wooded area of Lacey Township between the Lacey Inn and the Forked River Game Farm.

Police received a call from a resident of the Lacey Inn on Route 9 early Monday about a homeless woman being dead in the tent, according to Patch.com.

Authorities searched the area and found the body of 51-year-old Cheri Peterson in the tent. Peterson was a former resident of Wells Mills Road in Waretown. Police told Patch.com there were no overt signs indicating the cause of her death.

The cause of Peterson's death is under investigation and will be determined following a report from the Ocean County Medical Examiner's Office.
