Talk about a bunch of Scrooges.

In the heart of the holiday season when people give a little extra to the hard working people in their lives, the USPS is reminding us that mail carriers aren't allowed to accept cash.

It's not to say that you can't give your mail carrier a holiday gift, but technically they're not supposed to accept cash, gift cards, or checks.

Here's what the USPS has to say on the topic:

Under these federal regulations, carriers are permitted to accept a gift worth $20 or less from a customer per occasion, such as Christmas. However, cash and cash equivalents, such as checks or gift cards that can be exchanged for cash, must never be accepted in any amount.

In other words, you're more than welcome to leave your mail carrier a box of chocolates, a bottle of wine (as long as it's not really good wine, I suppose), or an ugly Christmas sweater, but if the rules are followed down to the letter, they're not supposed to accept cash or cash equivalents.

Will this stop you from tipping your mail carrier in cash? Feel free to weigh in on our Facebook page!
