Patrol officers who spot helmeted kids on two-wheelers, blades or scooters will get coupons redeemable for ice cream at participating shops.

The "Caught Wearing A Helmet" campaign is another chapter in a long-running emphasis on rewarding children for intelligent safety choices. Township officials distributed free helmets back in 2011.

Kids who are "caught" also have the opportunity for a photo with the patrol officers, for placement on the department's Facebook page, with permission from Mom and Dad.

Mayor Carmen Amato and Police Chief Karin T. DiMichele encourage ice cream shop owners to take part. Lieutenant Ryan Roth coordinates the activity at 732-341-1132, ext. 125.
