WEST ORANGE — A 72-year-old woman was killed Wednesday after being struck by a car while walking in the area of Mount Pleasant Avenue and Kelly Drive in West Orange.

According to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office, the woman, identified as Juliet Bergen of West Orange, was struck by a Toyota Camry while walking down the street at about 7:36 a.m. The driver of the Toyota stopped after the collision and called police, according to the prosecutor's office.

Police say Bergen was transported to University Hospital in Newark for life-threatening injuries. She was pronounced dead at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday.

No criminal charges have been filed against the driver, police say. The investigation is ongoing and is being conducted by the West Orange Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force
