We continually hear misinformation about alternative energy options such as wind power. Whether you are for or against alternative forms of energy, they are going to be the future in New Jersey and at the Jersey Shore, according to the Murphy Administration that recently sanctioned a Danish company to construct a solar farm off of our coast.

According to Orsted, the first offshore wind project in New Jersey already delivers over a thousand megawatts of clean energy and power over 500,000 homes in New Jersey, "The state of New Jersey has set an ambitious goal of 7,500 MW of offshore wind energy by 2035," the company says on their affiliate website, oceanwind.com.

The company says that construction for new wind turbines off of the coast of southern New Jersey should begin this year with the entire farm being operational in 2024, "The Ocean Wind Project will play a key role in helping the state achieve its goals, by providing clean energy, investing in New Jersey and making the state a key player in the new burgeoning offshore wind industry," the website says.

When the farm is fully operational, it should be able to power 3.2 million homes, "The project will utilize the GE Haliade-X 12 MW turbine, which is the most powerful turbine on the market today," the company says.

Orsted says that they are in the development stage of building the turbines, which includes environmental studies and geological surveying. Orsted also intends to hold open houses throughout southern New Jersey so that the public can learn more about the turbines and wind energy in general.

One of the most exciting things about this project is the view that beachgoers will have when the wind farm is complete — it's almost null. The company even provided public photos on their website, which you can see here.
