While you were busy working, running errands, or eating lunch late this morning and into early this afternoon, some of the most sophisticated war machines in the world were flying over New Jersey.

Chances are, though, that none of us had any idea that anything was going on.

It was all part of January 23rd's planned training exercises by the North American Aerospace Defense Command.

Or, as we know it better as, NORAD.

In a press release, NORAD officials note that the flights took place along the New Jersey coast between 11:00 this morning and 1:00 this afternoon.

So why didn't we hear or see anything?

Because, according to the NORAD Directorate of Public Affairs, "NORAD aircraft during this exercise will be flying at approximately 30,000 feet", well out of the range where anyone on the ground would hear or see anything.

It just goes to show that while we go about our daily lives, those who are responsible for protecting us are training around the clock without most of us ever knowing it.
