Where Is Everyone?

You might be aware that the offices/studios of WOBM and Townsquare Media are located in downtown Toms River.  It is shocking how different this area is on a holiday and when Toms River schools are closed which they have been this week partly due to the NJEA Teachers Convention.  Traffic is considerably lighter and you don’t have the kids from High School South going out for lunch.  If you couple that with Toms River and/or Ocean County employees having a day off it’s like a ghost town…which is nice once in a while.

The only two Ocean County teams left in the NJSIAA Football Playoffs both call Toms River home.  The North Mariners host Kingsway tonight in the South Jersey Group 5 championship game which is a rematch of last year which the Dragons won in the final minute.  TR North will be looking to avenge that and claim a sectional title.  Meanwhile Donovan Catholic has the seemingly impossible task of trying to beat Bergen Catholic Saturday afternoon in Oradell in the Non-Public “A” quarterfinals and that too is a rematch of a playoff game from last year which the Crusaders won 35-7 on their way to a 15^th state championship.

Back in school after a week off for Fall Break Veterans Memorial Middle School in Brick will host their annual Veterans Day celebration which last year hosted over 1500 guests.  It’s all about showing veterans how thankful the students are for the dedication given to our country.  The after-school event will include tours of the living museum, the presentation of colors by the Brick Memorial and Brick Township ROTC, a performance from the Brick Memorial choir, readings from students at Vets Memorial as well as a performance from their middle school band.

The evening will be capped off with the additional names that are being added to the school’s Wall of Honor which identifies graduates from Veterans Memorial who have served or are actively serving in the military.

A really nice touch by the school and district to educate students of what the day is all about.
