Compared to the rest of the world, Americans can be LOUD. It doesn’t matter if you're in a bar or at the grocery store, there always seems to be someone shouting, slamming, or music blaring. Preply did a recent survey to find out which states are the "loudest" offenders. So what do you think? Are we "loud talkers" here in the Garden State? Let's take a look at the survey and how we stand here in Jersey.

Key findings according to Preply:

  • New Jersey ranks #3 for states with the loudest talkers in America.
  • 85% of New Jersey residents think it's rude when people are loud in public.
  • 1 in 3 Americans say they have conversed with someone while in separate bathroom stalls.
  • 1 in 5 parents say they allow their kids to watch videos without headphones in public.

In addition, Louisiana, Florida, and New Jersey residents are the loudest talkers in the U.S. "In third for the loudest states is New Jersey. In our study, we asked respondents to rate how loud residents of their state talk, and New Jersey ranked second with an average score of 7.4 out of 10."

I think we talk fast and loud here in New Jersey. We do not whisper in Jersey. I wonder sometimes when people from out of state are here they think we are yelling at each other when really we are just talking lol. Add to that the speed we talk and it's not surprising we are referred to as loud lol. We talk fast and we get annoyed if someone is dragging along in a conversation and talking really slow and quietly, the "low talkers". Speak up and spill it, that's our motto in New Jersey. The three quietest states, according to the survey, are West Virginia, Tennessee, and Maine.
