I got 2 ½ hours sleep last night which is my fault but Evan Engram is partly to blame.  Let me explain.

I forced myself to stay awake because I wanted to watch both the final presidential debate and the Giants-Eagles game to see which would be the bigger train wreck.  To my surprise for the most part neither were.

The debate was far more civil than the disgraceful exchange between President Trump and Joe Biden earlier this month and I give much of the credit to moderator Kristen Welker of NBC who had control from the outset.  As we have come to expect both candidates often dodged questions but at least did not spend much of the evening interrupting one another.  My take is that the opinions of most voters did not change but what do I know.

Once the debate ended I was able to devote all my viewing to the football game and once again the Giants played just well enough to lose their 8th straight against their most hated rival.  The Eagles rallied from an 11-point deficit in the final five minutes and won it in large part because of Engram who is the type of player who continually finds ways to let his team down.

With the Giants trying to run out the clock in the final minutes he dropped a perfect pass which would have given Big Blue a first down deep into Philly territory.  Instead they had to punt and the Eagles drove 70+ yards before scoring the winning touchdown with 40 seconds left.

After suffering through this I could not fall asleep and will now pay the price today.  I hope the Giants send Engram packing sooner than later.

It’s Friday which means high school football and the Jersey Mike’s Game of the Week on the Shore Sports Network.  We’ll be at the home of the Brick Green Dragons as they host powerful Donovan Catholic.  The game can be watched on shoresportsnetwork.com and our free app with kickoff at 7p.m.

Among tonight’s other games Lacey makes the short trip to Central in what you could call the “Pizza Bowl.”  That’s because Conca D’oro in Forked River is donating 100 large pizzas to the winning team but there’s a unique spin.

The football team, cheerleading squad and band each get to select one organization or business they want to honor by providing one-third of the donated pies.  Pretty cool idea from Conca D’oro which hopefully turns into an annual part of this rivalry.
