Any Westworld viewer could tell you the series represents a sizable investment from HBO, and much like the park itself, no one would let it go so easily. The series is officially renewed for a second year, but may not debut any new episodes until 2018.

Monday saw HBO finally confirming the long-expected renewal, along with additional orders for 2016 comedies Insecure and Divorce. Westworld will return for another batch of 10 episodes, but according to Entertainment Weekly and HBO boss Casey Bloys, might not return until 2018:

My suspicion is sometime in ‘18 because of how big the world is and what goes into shooting it. So I don’t have exactly, they’re going to have to map it out and write the scripts, but my guess is sometime in ‘18.

The first season itself took considerable time to debut, briefly shutting down production to map out additional seasons down the line. Given the nature of the series itself, it also remains unclear where exactly Season 2 might take us, perhaps retiring some of the scenic vistas that made up Season 1 production.

We’ll learn more in the coming weeks, but is Westworld Season 2 worth it, if we have to wait until 2018?
