Wawa Really? I thought This Was a Joke…Nope It’s Happening in Lakewood, NJ
I don't know why I thought at convenience stores we wouldn't see this like grocery stores.
Self-checkouts are coming to Wawa's, according to nj.com. Wawa is doing a test on self-checkout registers in Ocean County at the Wawa located at 135 Rt. 70 in Lakewood.
Wawa has been testing self-checkout registers since 2018 but it's the first time testing them here in New Jersey. There are still cashiers along with the self-checkout registers for tobacco products. I'm not sure why this surprises me, QuickChek has them. Why is this throwing me off with Wawa?
Wawa has 850 convenience stores on the East coast and over 260 in New Jersey. The first drive-thru Wawa was introduced in New Jersey last year so why not self-checkouts?
Wawa has well over 100 items that you can order including the Wawa "gobbler". That is the most popular sub sandwich for the month of October and November. It's a bit messy, if you've never had one, try it.
Every time I'm in Wawa there are lines, no matter what time it is. It could be 2 am or 10 am there is always a line at the cash register. This would probably benefit a lot of people instead of standing in line. Self-checkouts seem to move pretty quickly in supermarkets.
How do you feel about self-checkout at Wawa? Do you think it will help the line move quicker? Or, just like at QuickChek, it causes more lines because of all the questions people have. Self-checkouts cause problems when I'm in QuickChek but I don't see the problems arise as much in grocery stores.
Wawa, self-checkout?
