Water main break in Freehold Borough

A ruptured water main in Freehold Borough leaves taps dry in part of the community into the night.

Word of the break first surfaced at about 4 PM. Borough police say the break is on Insitute Street. This is east of Route 79, about midway between Union Avenue and Mechanic Street.

The size of the main and the extent of service interruptions is not known. The water system is operated by the borough, police said.

Repairs are expected to take several hours.
