Somewhere I remember watching a commercial or video of some kind during a golf tournament about an organization called First Tee.  To be honest I did not pay that much attention to it and then last week I received an email regarding First Tee-Jersey Shore which is one of 150 chapters across the country and international locations as well.  I did not even know there was a local chapter but they’ve been around for 15 years and are committed to helping kids build character strengths and important life skills through the game of golf.

First Tee-Jersey Shore aims to provide kids with access to opportunities for personal growth in a fun and safe environment.  Lessons are designed to help them build a better understanding of themselves and strengthen their values and character and use them with everything they do on and off the course.

I’m sharing this because right now they are seeking part-time coaches to serve as positive mentors and role models to kids and teens in the program.  This is truly one of those instances in which both the coach and participant comes away with something positive.

Individuals of all golf skills are encouraged to volunteer and a training system already in place will provide coaches with the tools to make kids feel safe, included and empowered. Time commitment varies for small group sessions and team play on the various golf course locations and in order to be a coach you will need to complete SafeSport training and pass a background check.
