News Update: Could You See Your Medical Bills Paid?
Do you owe medical bills? Many in New Jersey do and some will actually see some relief and no one will argue with seeing less than more medical bills. This week New Jersey Governor Phill Murphy announced that approximately 100 million dollars in medical debt will be paid off for some New Jersey Residents. According to an article from Patch, "According to a news release from the governor's office, the state plans to use federal American Rescue Plan funds to become the first state in the country to wipe out nearly $100 million in medical debt."
Who In New Jersey Qualifies For Medical Debt Relief?
The first thing anyone with medical debt is asking is "Who will see this debt relief?". According to the Patch release, "To qualify for relief, New Jerseyans need to earn at least four times (400 percent) or below the federal poverty level or have medical debts that equal 5 percent or more of their annual income."
In addition, keep in mind that according to officials, there will be no application process to obtain this medical debt relief. Garden State residents who qualify will receive notification by mail starting this week. "Residents should receive an Undue Medical Debt branded letter.
So if you find yourself in medical debt and you think you qualify for relief, keep an eye out for information arriving in your mailbox shortly. "The state plans to deliver debt relief to 17,905 New Jersey residents who owed $61.6 million to Prime Healthcare hospitals and an additional 31,748 residents owing more than $38.4 million to other providers, primarily collections agencies."
