Frigid Weather Is Headed To The Garden State

It was a very stormy and wet New Year's Eve. As 2024 came to a close it was lots of wind, rain, lightning, and thunder. It was a stormy end to the year for sure. We were out at Holiday In The Park at 6 Flags in Jackson and it was a fun New Year's Eve until the end of the night when the stormy weather arrived. Most of us ran for the exits as the rain, lightning, and thunder rolled in. I can only imagine how those standing for hours in Times Square felt. Lotta soggy diapers in mid-town for sure.

Now that 2025 has arrived, Old Man Winter is set to return to New Jersey and bring with it an arctic blast! Cold weather is headed for the Garden State so get ready to bundle up once again.

According to a recent Patch article, "Things will take a very cold turn into the new year. Several blasts of Arctic air will sweep through the eastern half of the country during the first half of January, AccuWeather long-range forecasters warn. “Bitterly cold air will make a big return to the East Coast starting this weekend. This could end up being the coldest January since 2011 for the U.S. as a whole,” AccuWeather Lead Long-Range Expert Paul Pastelok said."

Temperatures will begin dropping on Friday and continue into the weekend. Overnight lows for parts of the state will hover around 20* from Saturday through next Friday with highs struggling to get above freezing. There is a chance of snow (50%) on both Monday and Tuesday with highs in the low 30s.

Some parts of the state could see a bit warmer weather but forecasters are waiting to see how things will play out next week. Regardless, colder weather is on the way and begins moving in tomorrow with windy weather in the forecast today (Wednesday) and tomorrow (Thursday).
