There is just something about a fall drive in New Jersey. Grab a cup of coffee, put on your favorite playlist, roll down the windows and let’s go see what Mother Nature has been working on!

And after this weekend’s Nor’easter, we might have to cross our fingers that we still have plenty of leaves left on the trees! But if the colors are still hanging around, this could be the perfect fall day trip from the Jersey Shore.

Start at the Jersey Shore

If you’re starting in Ocean County, make your way toward Allaire State Park in Wall Township. The historic village, wooded roads and changing leaves make this a fun first stop before continuing north.

From there, head toward the Delaware River Scenic Byway and follow Route 29 through some of New Jersey’s beautiful river towns. The drive between Lambertville, Stockton and Frenchtown gives you winding roads, water views, historic buildings and plenty of opportunities to stop for lunch, coffee or a little shopping.

Keep Driving for BIG Fall Color

If you want to make this a longer adventure, continue north toward High Point State Park. At 1,803 feet, it is the highest elevation in New Jersey and offers some pretty spectacular fall views.

Another option is the Delaware Water Gap, where you can take in the Delaware River surrounded by colorful hillsides. Old Mine Road is one of the scenic driving routes recommended by the National Park Service.

Make It a Jersey Fall Road Trip!

The best part? There is no perfect itinerary. Stop when you see a beautiful tree. Find a cute diner. Take pictures. Buy some apple cider. Turn around and take the back roads home.

Because sometimes the best fall adventure in New Jersey is simply getting in the car and seeing where the colorful road takes you!
