Is there an unwritten rule that for every one home decor store that will open in the area, two have to close?

At least that's how it seems following last week's announcement of a new At Home store that will be coming to the Seaview Square Mall, which was followed this week by news that at least two nearby Kirkland's stores will be closing.

The Kirkland's announcement actually goes back about a week as well, but it's just in the last few days that we're learning more specifics.

Last week, executives at the home decor chain announced that they'll be closing just over two dozen stores in the first part of this year, with, "...the potential for further closings later in the year".

When the announcement dropped, it didn't give specifics on which Kirkland's stores will be closing, but in the days since, "going out of business" signs have popped up at a pair of nearby locations.

Our sister station 94.3 The Point reports that liquidation sales have kicked off at the Freehold Raceway Mall location as well at the Route 36 location in West Long Branch.

There's another Kirkland's store in our area, on Route 70 in Brick, but NJ.com reports that a manager at the Brick location says that their store, "...will remain in operation".

The same article also reports that the Kirkland's location at the Bergen Town Center in Paramus will be closing as well.

If more closing locations for Kirkland's are reported, we'll keep you updated.
