Transformer breakdown triggers outages in Toms River

About 3,660 Jersey Central Power and Light customers in Toms River await restoration of electricity while a transformer on Route 37 is repaired or replaced.

The outage took place during the 10:00 hour. Details are sketchy, but the overhead signal at Toms River Fire Company 1 sounded at least three times within 10 minutes, and trucks could be seen streaming from the firehouse quickly afterward.

JCP&L's outage map shows 195 customers in Island Heights affected, and a smattering in South Toms River, Lakewood, Waretown and Berkeley Township.

Restoration for the bulk of the outages is scheduled for 1:00 - 1:30 PM.
