Police say Crystal L. Scholz, 37, sustained a gash and swelling of her head and face after stepping off the grass median and into oncoming eastbound traffic with Daniel Wilson, 21, also of the township, just after midnight on March 8.

Authorities say that they were not within a crosswalk.

The driver of the 2009 Audi, Nina Incorvaia, of Stockholm in northwestern New Jersey, stopped and called 911 when she realized that she hit "something," police said.

Scholz was treated at Jersey Shore University Medical Center for injuries considered non-life-threatening, police said.

However, investigators believed that Scholz and Wilson were under the influence of alcohol at the time. Both were given summonses for not using a crosswalk. Invorcaia was not charged.
