OCPO Spokesman Al Della Fave confirmed initial reports that the shooting erupted in the Silver Ridge apartment complex, which fronts busy Lakehurst Road, just west of the Garden State Parkway.

According to a preliminary report filed by Major Crimes detectives, two Toms River officers arrived at the complex at about 12:30 PM Tuesday, following up a previous report of someone believed to need mental health intervention services.

The individual, identified as a 56-year-old white male, became embroiled in a fight with the officers, which led to to the shooting, authorities said.

The information does not identify either officer, the victim, or whether one, or both, officers fired their service weapons.
