Toms River man charged with DWI after causing car accident
A Toms River man is charged with DWI after causing an accident between Bay Lea Road and North Bay Avenue Wednesday night around 5:20 pm, injuring a Manchester woman.
Toms River Police say 82-year old Louise Frankel was heading along Bay Avenue when she was struck by a 2012 Toyota Prius driven by 63-year old Dhananjay Joshi who was turning left onto North Bay Avenue.
As a result, Frankel then struck a traffic pole causing it to fall on her vehicle.
She suffered a compound ankle fracture in the accident and was transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center for treatment.
Joshi sustained a laceration to his head and was transported to Community Medical center for treatment.
He was issued summonses for Driving While Intoxicated, Reckless Driving and Failing to Yield the Right of Way at an Intersection and was also charged with Assault by Auto for his intoxication being a contributing factor to the crash leading to the serious injury to another driver.
The crash is under investigation by Toms River Traffic Officer PJ Gambardella.
