Toddler Dog Bite Victim’s Condition Still Serious

The 10-month-old Lakewood girl who was attacked by a dog in her family's home Saturday remains in serious condition today.

Details about the incident in the Central Avenue house remain sparse. Police say that the animal was a pet, not an attack dog.

They estimate its weight between 40 and 70 pounds, but are unclear as to the breed. Early unconfirmed reports indicated either a bulldog or a pit bull belonging to someone other than the family.

The toddler reportedly was playing with the animal with her mother close by when it clenched its jaws on her head, inflicting deep head, ear and neck wounds. She was flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune.
