I have always enjoyed history and I find it very interesting to see historical events that happened right here in our state. New Jersey has a deep history here in America as we were one of the original 13 colonies and one of the first states in the United States. So looking back over the years there are plenty of exciting events to discuss that happened this week in New Jersey Jersey.

JULY 23RD
1766: New Jersey Medical Society Founded. This was the first such organization in America.
1923: The Felician Sisters founded the Immaculate Conception Normal School in Lodi. This school (2-year college) was to train nuns for teaching positions.
JULY 24TH
1902: President Theodore Roosevelt visited with New Jersey Governor Franklin Murphy at the National Guard camp in Sea Girt, Monmouth County.
1974: New Jersey Congressman Peter Rodino, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, opened public hearings on Capitol Hill, on the impeachment of President Richard Nixon.
JULY 25TH
1868: President Ulysses S. Grant arrived in Atlantic City for a three-day visit.
1917: The New Jersey National Guard assembled in Sea Girt, Monmouth County for World War I duty.
1946: Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis performed their first show together as a comedy team at Club 500 in Atlantic City.
JULY 26TH
1860: A tornado struck Camden. The winds were measured at an estimated 200 miles per hour. Remarkably, only three people were killed and four were injured.
JULY 27TH
1918: Jack Dempsey defeated Fred Fulton in a boxing match in Harrison, New Jersey. The fight lasted 23 seconds.
JULY 28TH
1861: The first New Jersey officer in the Civil War died in Washington DC. Ensign Henry K. Zehner of the Third New Jersey Militia Regiment.
