With the New Jersey State Department of Education releasing their scores and rankings for every public school in the state, parents have a lot of data that they can pour over to see how their kids' schools match up with others in New Jersey.

There's a whole lot of stuff to dig through, and you can organize all of it by county, score (0 - 100), and percentile over at NJ.com, but in a nutshell, here are the top Ocean County schools overall:

  • OCVTS - Marine Academy of Technology & Environmental Science - 95.75
  • OCVTS - Performing Arts Academy - 88.45
  • Bay Head Elementary - 84.81
  • Island Heights Elementary - 84.15
  • Elms Elementary School (Jackson) - 64.7

The highest ranked high schools in the county (aside from the previously mentioned OCVTS academies) include:

  • Point Pleasant Borough High School - 55.45
  • Point Pleasant Beach High School - 54.06
  • Manchester Township High School - 48.79
  • New Egypt High School - 47.75
  • Brick Township High School - 45.77

The rankings come from a number of data points. For high schools, officials looked at:

  • Four-year graduation rate: 20%
  • Five-year graduation rate: 20%
  • Progress toward English language proficiency: 20%
  • English proficiency: 15%
  • Math proficiency: 15%
  • Chronic absenteeism: 10%

For elementary and middle schools, the numbers shook out like this:
