Southern, Donovan Catholic and Toms River East are schools that have not had much success on the football field in recent years but this weekend all three can clinch at least a tie for long sought-after division championships.

In Manahawkin tonight Southern hosts Middletown North and a Rams victory would give them at least a share of the Constitution Division title. Southern is 4-1 overall and 3-0 in the division thanks in large part to the contributions of sophomore running back Jaiden Brown and senior quarterback Cole Robinson.

They are clearly headed to their first winning season since 2012 when they had a guy by the name of Mike Gesicki playing for them.  It is great to see Southern find success this fall under Hall of Fame coach Chuck Donohue Sr. who is truly one of the great gentleman in high school sports today.

Donovan Catholic is a big favorite at home against Manasquan tonight a win would allow them to secure at least a share of the Liberty Division crown.  The Griffins are one of four undefeated teams remaining in the Shore Conference and they have been dominating, shutting out four of their five opponents while averaging 40 points per game.

Donovan had not had a winning season since 2012 before last year under Coach Dan Curcione and this team should be playing meaningful football well into the month of November.

Toms River East can wrap up the Freedom Division championship tonight in a showdown at Neptune.  The 5-0 Raiders had won a total of just 15 games over the last eight seasons before this fall but they have learned to win the close ones with four of their victories coming by a total of 16 points.

They’ll have their hands full with the explosive Scarlet Fliers but a win would give Coach Kyle Sandberg a championship as this is East’s final division game of the season.

Tonight’s Jersey Mike’s Game of the Week finds the Shore Sports Network at Middletown South where the Eagles host Toms River North.  You can watch it live beginning at 7pm at shoresportsnetwork.com or on the Shore Sports Network mobile app.
