Many times at a barbeque I will opt for a really good hot dog than a hamburger. I enjoy a good well-done beef hot dog with lots of great toppings. Sauerkraut, chili, mustard, relish, etc. I don't like ketchup on my hot dog I definitely prefer good spicy mustard.

I think if I were to create my ultimate hot dog it would be a potato roll, beef dog, spicy brown mustard, chili, and chopped onion. That would be the "Shawniemikes", nothing new or earth-shattering, but it would be my pick.

So in this article, I decided to go in search of the oldest "hot dog shop" here in the Garden State. Do we have a deep history of really good hot dog shops? the answer is yes and yes. We have a long history and they are delicious hot dogs.

Texas Weiner I is the oldest hot dog shop in Jersey, opening in 1924. It's nearly 100 years old and still thriving. By the way yes they spell it "Weiner" they switched the "I" and the "E" and went from "wiener" to "weiner". "For an unknown reason, the dog is intentionally spelled weiner, not wiener. The I and E are swapped!"

In addition according to the article by Only in Your State, "After extensive hot dog research, it appears that the weiner originated in either Paterson or Plainfield. Both cities have a stake in the claim...a hot dog stand in Paterson (which no longer exists) or Texas Weiner I (which you can still visit today)."
