Let me get this out of the way at the start.  If ever a loss summed up an entire season it was Tuesday night in Washington D.C. where the Nationals scored 7 runs off three relievers in the bottom of the 9th to not only beat the Mets 11-10 but basically shut the door on the 2019 season for the not-so-Amazin’s.

In a fitting conclusion to the game and the season Edwin Diaz surrendered a game-winning 3-run homer, ball game over, season over!

Now with that said let’s turn our attention to football.  The college season has already begun, high school football kicks off this weekend and the NFL season begins on Sunday.  Last night the Luch Football League (LFL) held its draft as we get ready for our 26th or 27th season (nobody knows for sure) of fantasy football.

Most leagues conduct their draft online but being the purists we are ours is held at an undisclosed (to the public) Toms River location because the three hours of picking your team feature three hours of non-stop ridicule from the other 11 franchise owners.

Along with my brother, son and nephew “Will Quartet” had the second overall pick in the draft and had decided to take Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey.  That was assuming “Double D” would select Giants running back Saquon Barkley with the top pick which is what’s been happening in most leagues around the country.

But in a shocker they took McCaffrey first and that left the former Penn State star for us and we didn’t waste any time in welcoming Saquon to our team.

We’re excited to get it going this week when we take on the “Oilman” a/k/a Matt Purporo who is the commissioner of the league.  We are all chasing the championship trophy currently held by the “The Bulimics” a formidable team comprised of Brian Wilkinson & Scott Campbell.

However expect them to suffer a championship letdown as they’ve been on the banquet circuit in a prolonged celebration that will cost them this year.

From fantasy to reality.  The season premiere of the Asylum Sports Center Coaches Corner is set for tonight at 7 p.m. as we preview the upcoming Shore Conference High School football season.

Bob Badders, Ed Sarluca & Gregg Lerner join me in a roundtable discussion that can be watched on shoresportsnetwork.com as well as our sister station 105.7 The Hawk Tonight’s show will be broadcast live from Asylum Sports Center in Wall.
