John M. Leddy, 29, of Brick, sustained extensive internal injuries and bone breakage when he was hit by a sport-utility vehicle on Herbertsville Road, according to information from the office of County Prosecutor Joseph D. Coronato.

Leddy was about halfway across Herbertsville Road at Hulse Avenue when the 2015 GMC Sierra driven by Jeffrey Bevacqua, 52, also of Brick, approached in the westbound lanes, investigators said. The point of impact is believed to be in the westbound lane, abutting the double-yellow dividing line.

Leddy was rushed to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. Bevacqua diplayed no signs of impairment, and had no cell phone in use at the time, investigators said. His vehicle was secured at Ocean County's CSI facility.
