Here's a great way to get something you need while helping others at the same time.  You can purchase holiday cards that are professionally printed, showing the artwork of some talented local students.  It's a fundraiser that the OceanCares Foundation is running to support the work of Ocean Mental Health Services.  That means your purchase of holiday cards, which you need anyway, will help people in your hometown.  Ocean Mental Health  Services has programs for family and children and people in recovery.  They help with homelessness and other crisis situations.

Scott Corbett who is the Principal of Ocean Academy says integrating the arts into the classroom helps keeps students engaged and motivated.  "A curriculum rich in arts integrated activities has been linked to increased retention and achievement. These achievements have been shown to benefit the student even after they leave a classroom," he says.

"Ocean Academy students are proud to offer again their holiday card collection to help support Ocean Mental Health Services programs," according to Eileen Catalano who is a teacher at Ocean Academy.  She says, "This collection is a result of a school wide contest with final selections chosen by students and staff in a blind vote."

Each pack of cards contains an assortment of 5 different images, created by Ocean County students.  A pack will cost you $12 plus $2 for shipping.  If you want to purchase more than one, the cost of shipping will be a little bit more.

To purchase cards, send an e-mail to LMulhearn@oceanmhs.org with Holiday Cards in the subject line.
