You’ve no doubt heard the expression “time flies when you’re having fun.”  Well it also flies during the period between Memorial Day and Labor Day which marks the unofficial summer season at the Jersey Shore.  To me Memorial Day weekend seemed like it was yesterday yet here we are heading into the final weekend of June and only nine days from the 4th of July.

I swear that as I get older summer seems to go faster while of course winter drags on.  It’s sort of the Monday vs. Friday thing I have talked about many times over the years.  Whether you are in school or in a job (especially one that you don’t like that much) the hours you learn or work are the same on both days.  However Monday you come in dragging and keep looking at your watch or a clock and wondering why it’s not moving.  When the day is over you feel like you have survived this awful experience and hope the next day is better.  Then comes Friday when you have this bounce in your step and a smile on your face and time moves rather quickly…when the school or work day is over you are exuberant because here comes the weekend.

Well that sort of sums up summer vs. winter for many of us and I would be at the front of the line.  January, February, March and even April often drag on with many days feeling like Monday.  But when the weather warms up and the days get longer as we approach summer that bounce in our step returns and you are filled with that Friday feeling all the time.  That’s where we are right now and it’s wonderful and while I should enjoy every day I keep looking at the calendar and realizing Labor Day is only 71 days away.

Please Father Time…slow it down a bit.
