‘Star Trek: Discovery’ Beams Out First Trailer, Expanded Order
Just as earlier today brought our first Star Trek: Discovery photo, the first trailer is out of this world. Yes, literally and figuratively. See for yourself, along with the latest details on the 15 (!) episode series!.
CBS debuted first footage of Trek’s twice-delayed return to TV, now confirmed for a fall premiere with its own Talking Trek after-show (eyeroll). Intriguingly, the first season is now confirmed to run 15 episodes, as opposed to the 13 originally announced.
Here, have some key art, while we’re at it:
Featuring Sonequa Martin-Green as First Officer Michael Burnham, Star Trek: Discovery has among the cast Rainn Wilson as Harry Mudd, Jason Isaacs as Captain Lorca, James Frain as Spock’s father Sarek, Doug Jones as an alien science officer, Adam Rapp as the TV franchise’s first openly-gay character and Michelle Yeoh as Captain of a different ship, along with assorted crew and several Klingon roles. Ex-showrunner Bryan Fuller also previously stepped up to clarify his limited involvement in the project going forward.
Shooting primarily in Toronto, the new 15-episode Star Trek: Discovery is said to take place 10 years before Kirk’s original Enterprise mission, as well to be “heavily serialized.” The new series will also explore the fallout of an event referenced, but never seen in the original series. Wrath of Khan director Nicholas Meyer has also joined the creative side along with Gene Roddenberry’s son Rod, fan-favorite Voyager novel alum Kirsten Beyer, franchise vet Joe Menosky and Heroes writer Aron Coleite.
Star Trek: Discovery will hopefully deliver an official premiere soon, but watch the production teaser below while we wait.
