According to LoveGelU.com, it seems that "Italian Ice" has deep roots right here in the Garden State. "Italian Ice, interestingly, isn't Italian. It's an American invention that came out of New Jersey about 100 years ago. However, Italian Ice is based on an Italian creation called granita, which is a semi-frozen dessert, originally created in Sicily, that's made from sugar, water, and various flavorings."

For me when it comes to Italian Ice my favorite has always been lemon. Since a kid, I have always loved lemon as my "go-to" ice. Growing up at the Jersey Shore we always had ice-cold Italian Ice during summer with the little wooden spoon to scope with, it's a part of many childhoods especially here in New Jersey.

A sign that spring is coming is the re-opening of Ralph's Italian Ice in Toms River announced it will re-open in Toms River in just about a month on St. Patrick's Day, Friday, March 17th. Folks will be looking forward to the "spring" ritual that Ralph's has been doing since it opened in 1928. Maybe they'll have a "green" treat for St. Patrick's Day when they re-open? Hint - Hint lol
