The prototype space shuttle traveled up the Hudson River from Jersey City on Wednesday. It passed the Statue of Liberty and the World Trade Center site en route to the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum.

It was hoisted by crane onto the Intrepid’s flight deck.

Hundreds of spectators lined the waterfront to watch. Thomas Hoffler said he had never seen a space shuttle and he was “just spellbound.”

The Enterprise’s original move-in date was Tuesday. Organizers said Monday bad weather had delayed preparation work.

A spokeswoman for the Intrepid says the shuttle’s wingtip sustained light cosmetic damage during the trip Sunday when a gust of wind caused it to graze a wood piling.
