South Toms River Sharpens Priorities for 2015
Modest in size - a little over a square mile, population less than 4,000 - and relatively young age - on the maps since 1927 - South Toms River has evolved into a center for marine commerce and light industry while keeping its small-town closeness intact. The borough's leaders are now engineering the most ambitious transformation in its brief but active history.
On the December 10, 2014 edition of "Townsquare Tonight" on WOBM-AM 1160 & 1310, Mayor-elect Oscar Cradle and Borough Administrator Joseph Kostecki discoursed on progress with state and local officials for the long-sought Streetscape project, aimed at turning the borough's busy Route 166 corridor into a pedestrian-friendly destination that mixes its well-rooted marina trade with retail amenities.
Borough Councilmen Gregory Handshy and William Gleason were joined by Councilman-elect Sandford Ross in describing the nuts and bolts of Toms River waterfront cleanup and of attracting anchor businesses to the borough's western sector - while maintaining the neighborhood atmosphere that distinguishes it from its booming, bustling neighboring communities.
