South Toms River Police investigating armed robbery on Belmont Drive
South Toms River Police are investigating an early Thursday morning armed robbery that took place at a home on Belmont Drive, announced STR Police Chief William Kosh.
Patrol officers arrived at the address at 1:29 am where the victims told them that two men entered their residence and one of them was reportedly armed with a handgun.
The suspects then fled the scene in one of the family owned vehicles with unknown items.
The vehicle was quickly located by patrol units but was abandoned a short distance away.
Police used a K9 track in a search for the suspects leading officers to nearby Magnolia Avenue, where they believe the suspects may have entered into a second vehicle.
Chief Kosh said that at this time, it's unknown if the suspects knew the victims.
"We believe this was an isolated, specifically targeted event and we have no reason to believe there are any immediate threats to the public," Kosh said.
The Beachwood Police Department assisted with the initial response, and the Ocean County Sheriff's Department Crime Scene Investigation Unit is assisting with the follow-up investigation.
This is an ongoing investigation.
If anyone has information regarding the incident, you're asked to contact Detective Timothy Meier at (732) 349-0313 extension 112.
