Silver car strikes Lakewood patrol car and keeps driving, police say
Police in Lakewood are looking for witnesses who saw a driver strike a patrol car and keep going Thursday night on Route 9 near Cross Street around 5:30 pm.
The patrolman was speaking outside of his car with a driver he pulled over at the time of the incident during a traffic stop, according to Detective/Lieutenant Greg Staffordsmith who serves as Lakewood Police's public information officer.
The small silver car then took off northbound on Route 9 after they allegedly sideswiped the patrol car.
Officer Jon Pederson was able to avoid injury as was the driver he was speaking to.
Anyone with information on the incident is urged to call Sargent Frank Work at 732-363-0200.
